Taking Five

How did we end up in December so fast? What an incredible ride this year has been. As the year comes to a close, I look back at all posts that Mike and I have written. Some of them we called in, some of them we’re pretty proud of. Having written 2 posts a week and creating an iNFO2 graphic every week as well, we’ve finally built up a catalogue of work that we can share on a regular basis. Our new campaign has considerably grown our network in a very short period of time; triple what we had worked hard to build over the first year. Add on top of that, all the work we do with our clients and our various other projects and responsibilities. Needless to say, it’s been a busy period in our lives. Since it’s the end of the year, I’ve committed myself to taking a family vacation for the next couple weeks. As a result, the Media Monday Posts will be put on hiatus until the very end of the year. In the meantime, I hope that you will continue to practice your skills with SOCiAL media and continue to reach for your goals and dreams. Continue to engage in conversation, whether it’s with Twitter or Facebook and keep putting out your videos. When I return, I hope to catch up and share the experiences that we missed while apart. Most importantly, enjoy your holiday season. I know it can be a stressful time of year, so remember to share those stresses and perhaps find comfort from the people in your network. Thank-you for following our journey and for allowing us to share yours.
Happiest of Holidays,
Tim Rockey
Facebook Experiment
Friday, December 2, 2011 0:01
Here is a great experiment for Facebook. For a month (30 days), reach out to every single person on your Facebook friends list. For some, that’s only three people, however, for others, it could be 5000. The purpose is to get to know your friends better. You don’t have to get to know them super well and become BFF’s… just the basics… FORD – Family, Occupation, Recreation and Dreams. Hell, even a re-connection would work. They’re on your “friends” list right? Shouldn’t you want to get to know them better? What’s the worst that can happen… you get to know them and build a stronger connection?
There are two ways to do this. One, which I think is the best way, because it could lead to meeting more people, is to comment on their status, pictures and videos. But don’t just comment to comment. Have something to say, something that will engage in conversation. Go through your news feed and comment as much as you can. You’re already on Facebook two or three times a day anyway… might as well use it to start engaging.
The other way is through messaging. If you haven’t seen a status update from a friend in a while, send them a quick message, something of meaning. Even a “Hey, it’s been a long time, how have you been.” Just find a way to communicate with them. Here is an exception. If they aren’t very active on Facebook, and they don’t get back to you, there isn’t much more you can do. You can keep messaging them, but it’ll be a massive waste of time. So send them an engaging message and leave it at that.
For those desiring a more elaborate purpose for this experiment, here it is. The more people you know and the better you know them, the greater the chance you’ll be successful in life. Although their are exceptions to every rule, for the most part volume plays a massive role in success. The reason why I’m asking you to do this on Facebook is because you already know these people somehow, thus it won’t be a cold introduction, much like how it would be on Twitter or Google+.
My hypothesis is that you will start growing some great online relationships that will lead to you doing more of the things you’ve always wanted to do, as well as growing great connections for business. BTW, when it comes to business, any connection can help you, you just need to find a way how.
The conclusion will be up to you. The more you put into this experiment, the greater the return you will get. I’d love to know your conclusions and how you did, so feel free to add me on facebook: facebook.com/mkstevens05 and let me now how you are doing. And just so you don’t feel alone, I’ll be doing this throughout the month of December, so I’ll let you know how it goes.
